C.N. Lowe MC, DFC, was an England Rugby Union player who won 25 international caps and scored 18 tries. More so, he has a credit of 1st World War flying ace with nine victories. And supposedly the inspiration for W. E. Johns’ character “Biggles”  our Vintage England Rugby Shirt. Also, Retro England Rugby T-Shirt celebrates the countries, former great players.

Born in Holbeach, Lincolnshire his education is from Dulwich College. Lowe excelled at a number of sports, including athletics, swimming, cricket and boxing. In addition, the College fielding an outstanding Cricket team and Low played alongside future England Cricket captain, Arthur Gilligan, the future Essex wicket-keeper R. K. Nunes the future captain of the West Indies the future Essex wicket-keeper Frank Gilligan.

He was part of the unbeaten 1909 college rugby union squad. Besides, the squad contained five future internationals. These five were W. D. Doherty who went on to play for Ireland. And Eric Loudoun-Shand and Grahame Donald both went on to play for Scotland. Moreover, along with Lowe himself, J. E. Despite his obvious sporting abilities, Cyril Lowe was not physically large, standing only 5 ft 8. And weighing around a nine-and-a-half stone.

Moreover, being a Cambridge University student, he won rugby blues in 1911, 1912 & 1913. Making him a rare ‘Triple Blue’. He would have worn a similar Vintage style Rugby Union shirt whilst playing at Cambridge. He also played in four England Grand Slam-winning sides until his retirement in 1923.

Also, Cyril Lowewent on to Cambridge University and was selected to play for England in 1913. He scored a record 18 tries in 25 internationals and was on the losing side only three times, once to South Africa and twice to Wales – during a career which spanned either side of the First World War.

He played a major part in four Grand Slam-winning campaigns. In 1913 and 1914 he won back-to-back Five Nation Grand Slams and scored eight tries in the 1914 Championship. His tally of tries remained a record until overtaken only by another famous RAF pilot, Rory Underwood, in 1989. Lowe played at the club level for Blackheath after University.
